Inflammaging: Inflammation that you don’t feel but still ages you

Inflammaging is a silent chronic inflammation that grows with age. It does not hurt, but it can accelerate biological ageing. Find out more.

Imagine a very small, almost invisible fire. It doesn't burn enough to hurt you, it doesn't smoke enough to make you cough. But it's been on, day and night, for years. What happens to everything around him?

This is inflammaging. A chronic, silent, low-grade inflammation, which tends to grow with age even in the absence of obvious infections or diseases. The name is the fusion of the English words inflammation and aging, inflammation and aging, and it is not accidental: Research over the last 20 years has shown that these two processes are more closely linked than previously thought.

Inflammation that is good and inflammation that is bad

Inflammation is not the enemy. It's one of the most powerful defense mechanisms we have. When you cut your finger, when you catch a flu, when your muscles strain too much, the inflammatory system activates, intervenes, repairs. Without him, we wouldn't be here.

The problem arises when this system remains active even without a precise reason, at a low but continuous level. Not enough to produce clear symptoms, no fever, no acute pain, no visible swelling. But enough to interfere, in the long run, with the functioning of the cells, of textiles, of microcirculation, of metabolism.

The researchers Franceschi and Campisi, among the first to study this phenomenon systematically, described it as one of the most relevant processes in biological ageing. Not the only cause, ageing is too complex to have only one, but a significant and often underestimated contribution.

How do you recognize yourself? (Spoiler: It's not easy)

Here is the practical problem: Inflammaging does not have a specific symptom. People who have it often simply feel ‘less fit’. Tired earlier than usual. With less energy. Slower to recover after an effort or a difficult night. With a general sense of “heaviness” that is difficult to explain to the doctor because it does not correspond to any abnormal examination.

It does not mean that anyone who feels this way has inflammaging. These symptoms can have many causes, and only a medical evaluation can guide you. But it means that this kind of silent inflammation is worth knowing, because it could be one of the keys to understanding why the body, at some point, begins to respond differently.

Can something be done?

The short answer is yes, but it requires a serious approach. There is no anti-inflammaging pill, and those who sell it probably sell fried air. What the most advanced longevity medicine is exploring is how to intervene on the biological regulation mechanisms that allow inflammation to become chronic, i.e. working not on the symptom, but on the processes that generate it.

The model REAC Inside Blue Zone™ It fits in this direction. The Protocol REAC ACT-iBZ has been developed to support the modulation of chronic inflammatory processes as part of a structured medical pathway, oriented towards the progressive recovery of physiology. The aim is not to extinguish inflammation, which is essential for life, but to help the body find a more efficient balance.
